Patients usually seek orthodontic treatment to improve their oral health and the appearance of their smile. You should especially schedule an appointment with our orthodontist if you experience pain or discomfort while biting down. This could indicate an issue with jaw alignment.
How do braces work?
Traditional metal braces exert pressure on your teeth, slowly moving them into their optimal positions. Unlike Invisalign clear aligners, metal braces are attached to your teeth so you can’t remove them. Instead, braces exert continuous pressure on your teeth.
How do I care for braces?
Avoid eating foods that are sticky and/or hard to chew. Otherwise, you risk damaging your brackets and archwires. Foods you should avoid include caramel, gum, whole raw apples, and popcorn.
You should continue to brush twice a day and floss once daily. During orthodontic treatment, it’s easy for plaque to accumulate around wires and brackets. It’s also easy for patients to neglect their oral health while wearing metal braces. Take good care of your teeth so they’ll remain healthy and white after we remove your braces.
